At some points during ‘Bad Teacher’ you do wonder whether the Casting Director was just wanting a laugh choosing Cameron Diaz and her real life ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake to play love interests. This certainly does add an extra dimension to the film and one must wonder how awkward certain scenes were to film for the pair!
Despite the obvious outside issues, the Casting Director did make a great choice in terms of their suitability for the roles. Both provide highly comical performances, and enable the success of the film.
Accompanying Diaz and Timberlake are Jason Segel (AKA Marshall from ‘How I Met Your Mother’) and Lucy Punch who also put in good performances, the latter as the goody two-shoes teacher.
The plot isn’t too deep with the story centred around a foul-mouthed, junior high teacher who, after being dumped by her sugar daddy, begins to woo a colleague - a move that pits her against a well-loved teacher.
Although some scenes are highly reminiscent of ‘School of Rock’, the film is a light-hearted comedy that does keep you entertained.
Much of the humour is clichéd and immature though that does not prevent it still making you laugh.
‘Bad Teacher’ certainly won’t be winning any Oscars but is definitely worth sitting down for 90 minutes to watch and guaranteed you will leave the cinema laughing.
'Bad Teacher' is released in the UK on 17th June.
