We caught up with stars of the new film ‘Killing Bono’ on the red carpet of its premiere last night.
After stopping to sign autographs and greet their many fans, Ben Barnes and Robert Sheehan talked to us about the film, in which they play two brothers who attempt to become global rock stars but can only look on as old school friends U2 become the biggest band in the world.
In real life however both stars revealed they were fans of the super successful Irish rockband.
Sheehan declared “How can you not be a fan? I grew up just outside Dublin, so U2 was a part of life.”
And Barnes agreed, “Their songs are anthemic.” Although he was keen to add, “Both Bono fans or haters will enjoy this film.”
Barnes did admit he was sceptical when he was alerted that the film would be released on the 1st April:
“When somebody told me it was coming out on April 1st, I did ask if that was joke. It is a real film that we actually made, if you buy a ticket you will be able to see it!”
The ‘Narnia’ and ‘Dorian Gray’ star was also keen to pay tribute to Pete Postlethwaite, with this being the actor’s last film:
“For him to be 64, not very well, and still challenging himself, wanting to do something different and enjoying himself was incredible. It was an honour to work with him”.
Sheehan also confirmed to us that “there will be more Misfits” and “hopefully with a bit of schedule juggling I will be involved.”
Although fans of the Channel 4 show needn’t worry as Barnes stated jokingly “If he’s unavailable I put myself up!”
‘Killing Bono’ is released in the UK on 1st April.
