The Irish comedian, Dara O’Briain, best known currently for his role on TV panel show ‘Mock The Week’, took his nationwide tour to The Hammersmith Apollo this week, and indulged his audience with comedy of the highest degree.
It could be assumed that many of O’Briain’s jokes on the BBC programme are scripted; however the first half of his show at the Apollo dispelled any doubts about his comedy pedigree as his constant interaction with the crowd led to a totally improvised performance. Starting conversation with a handful of audience members, O’Briain responded brilliantly to whatever topics the discussions brought up, keeping the crowd on their toes and laughing all evening.
The second half had a more structured routine, yet O’Briain’s anecdotes still included and appealed to a wide range of the audience, whether with his stories about a pre-natal class or games consoles. As displayed by his routine, and the varied age of the crowd, it is clear that O'Briain's humour appeals to a mixed, but large audience; many of whom no doubt enjoy watching him on the TV and embraced this opportunity to see him perform live.
Overall, a top night was had by all and O’Briain with this tour has reinforced his stake at becoming the nation’s best stand-up comedian, as well as TV funnyman.
Without a doubt, I’d recommend buying tickets to see O’Briain however don’t go for the front row unless you want to be part of the show!
