'Fire In Babylon' Premiere

The fantastic ‘Fire In Babylon’ premiered yesterday at The Odeon Leicester Square with a surprising list of famous faces in attendance.

The documentary film tells the story of the West Indies cricket team between 1976 and 1984 detailing the adversity the side had to overcome in order to become the greatest cricket team of all time.

Walking the Red Carpet for the European Premiere were the stars of the very West Indies side Michael Holding, Colin Croft, Joel Garner and Gordon Greenidge, plus modern day Cricket stars Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood.

There was also a host of celebrity guests including Hugh Grant, Sadie Frost and Trudie Styler.

We had a chat with ‘Whispering Death’ Michael Holding who told us:

“I don’t think there will ever be any team as good as this team”.

And unfortunately for the West Indies it doesn’t look as if they will defy his statement any time soon, with Holding summing-up the current situation:

“It’s sad...but hopefully it will turn around in the not too distant future.”

The former fast-bowler whose interview helps to narrate the film was pleased with the final product:

“I’m very happy with the film; anything going on film is always going to be a little bit different from real life however”.

It’s no wonder Holding is happy with the film, as it does perfectly illustrate how different the game was then than it is today, and serves as a great reminder of what a great team the West Indies side was.

‘Fire In Babylon’ is released on the 20th May, and is well worth watching even if you’re not an avid cricket fan.
