The Laureus World Sports Awards is the premier global sports awards ceremony which honours the greatest sportsmen and women across all sports and this year the lavish ceremony was held in London. We got dressed up to join the great and the good from sport and see who triumphed on the night.
Taking place in central Westminster, the Red Carpet was awash with legends from all sports including Laureus Academy members such as Boris Becker, Sergey Bubka, Nadia Comaneci, Martina Navratilova, Gary Player and Sir Steve Redgrave.
However, it wasn’t just sporting heroes present with a touch of glamour added by guests from the worlds of entertainment and fashion including Bryan Ferry, Thandie Newton and Bar Refaeli.
After the Red Carpet pleasantries, the ceremony got underway, hosted by British actor Clive Owen and a number of sports stars were rewarded for their achievements in the past year.
Facing some extremely tough competition from the likes of Lionel Messi, Usain Bolt and Sebastien Vettel, there could only be one winner of the Sportsman of the Year Award and quite rightly it went to World Tennis Number One Novak Djokovic.
The Laureus Sportswoman of the Year Award went to Kenya's extraordinary distance runner Vivian Cheruiyot, who won both 5,000 and 10,000 metres gold medals at the World Championships in Daegu.
FC Barcelona added another trophy to their cabinet being named Team of the Year, whilst Oscar Pistorius collected the Laureus Disability Award.
Elsewhere it was a good night for Northern Ireland Golf with Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke both being honoured.
Sir Bobby Charlton, although unable to be present, was awarded the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award.
We spoke to a number of the Award winners and these interviews can be read on the site soon.
