Kung Fu fever hit Westfield Shopping Centre on Sunday as ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ has its UK premiere.
With the shopping centre decked out with Chinese decor, all that was needed was Carl Douglas’ hit playing in the background!
Although Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan couldn’t make it, there were numerous celebrity guests such as Thandie Newton and Rachel Stevens to add a touch of glamour. Best of all star of the film Jack Black was in attendance and indulged in delighting the crowds with his hilarious antics.
We had a chat with the Hollywood star on the Red Carpet before he made his way into the screening.
And he admitted he didn’t get his co-star Angelina Jolie, who just celebrated her 36th birthday, a present:
“I’m not very good with birthdays! I would have probably just made her a homemade card; I find that cards are the best gifts. I would have made her something, maybe something origami!”
Describing the film, Black went on to say:
“What makes Kung Fu Panda 2 so awesome? Of course there is the action and kung fu moves but ultimately it’s the heart and the feeling, by the end of the movie I was really moved. You might think I’m joking but I’m not – it’s a powerful film!”
The sequel to the original animated box office hit tells the story of hero Po whose happy existence protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his kung fu-crazy friends is soon threatened with the arrival of a formidable villain who plans to use an unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy kung fu forever.
Po must look deep into his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he be able to unlock the strength to kick his new enemy into touch.
The film is a light-hearted animated 3D adventure which should have kids gripped and even adults entertained. It sensibly takes the best parts of the original and improves on it.
‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ is released in the UK on 10th June.
