With tickets priced up to £100,000, the uber-rich were out in force at Gorbachev’s 80th Birthday Gala, and we had a chat with one billionaire, the British businessman Nick Candy.
Candy, who along with his brother makes up Candy & Candy, made his fortune in the housing market, and is behind the new luxury development ‘One Hyde Park’.
Speaking on the Red Carpet, Candy was quick to praise the Birthday boy:
“He (Gorbachev) did some amazing things in his lifetime”.
And it is thanks to Gorbachev that so many Russians have been able to move to England.
“The Russians here have been amazing, they’ve been big purchasers of Candy & Candy designed apartments, purchasers of One Hyde Park, and they’re very important.
London is an international city, and Eastern Europe is a big market. But you wait to see you the flight of capital from the Middle East, due to what’s going on there at the moment, to London this Summer. There are already a lot more (Arabs coming to London) and it’s fantastic.”
Candy was at the event with his girlfriend, the former ‘Neighbours’ actress turned Pop Star, Holly Valance.
“It will be a very exciting evening and there are some great people here. It’s nice to see Kevin Spacey. And it’s great for London.”
Let’s hope they enjoyed their evening.
