Spain snatched a very late 1-0 victory to defeat the Netherlands in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday night, thus concluding the international tournament for another four years.
After a game which was marred by Holland’s negative anti-football and a record 14 yellow cards, the Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta broke the stalemate in the 116th minute to gift Spain their first ever World Cup win.
Following the Final, the Spanish squad have returned to Madrid amid joyous celebrations in the capital. An estimated one million people lined a five-mile route in the Spanish capital as the team paraded in an open-top bus, with Casillas and Co holding aloft the prestigious Jules Rimet trophy, which will be added to Spain’s 2008 European Championship trophy.
The countdown now begins to Brazil 2014!
