Out in UK cinemas on Friday is ‘The Adjustment Bureau’, starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.
The film tells the story of an ambitious politician who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he's ever loved across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York and risk everything to defy Fate and be with her.
Undoubtedly Damon and Blunt have excellent on-screen chemistry and remain throughout the movie a joy to watch.
However, this is stifled by a most ridiculous plot in which the conclusion is unfortunately far too obvious.
The plot seems reminiscent, or more accurately wanting to be reminiscent of a Christopher Nolan film, and certainly borrows ideas from ‘Inception’ however unlike Nolan who can mastermind a confusing narrative, this one just leaves you nonplussed at its silliness.
Hence, the film is far from being a great Sci-Fi thriller, however if you can bear the ridiculously unbelievable and enter the cinema with lower expectations, then it can be viewed as an enjoyable, light-hearted film with the two lead actors saving its credibility.
