On Tuesday, the great and the good from the worlds of TV and Radio gathered at The Grosvenor House Hotel for the annual TRIC Awards. We went along to catch up with some of the famous faces in attendance...
First to be honoured was Eamonn Holmes who won the award for Satellite/Digital Personality, and he was thankful for his continued success in what he described as “a here today, gone tomorrow industry”.
He saw off competition for the award from Leigh Francis and Peter Andre, with the latter declaring that “work’s going well, personal life is going well; everything is fantastic.” Andre is soon to embark on his first international tour in fifteen years and despite admitting he’s “getting a bit old for the dancing” he is extremely excited for the year ahead.
Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker was also successful, picking up the Sports Presenter award for the second year running; despite comedian Rory McGrath joking that “the man on the street wanted Jeff Stelling to win!” Lineker said he will continue to do “his Saturday job and flog a few spuds”.
Chris Evans managed to bag two awards, leaving with both ‘Digital Radio Personality’ and ‘Best Radio Programme’, however he admitted that he still had one unfulfilled ambition – that of writing a movie.
The presenter of ‘The One Show’ said he had started writing a script for a "rites-of-passage" film several times but never finished it. "It was always rites of passage, I was trying to come up with the answer to The Graduate but then American Beauty came along and did that so I'll have to figure something else out."
The BBC’s Bill Turnbull won best Newscaster/Reporter and seemed delighted, saying, “This is my first prestigious award! I didn’t expect to win so I’m really chuffed”.
Having only returned to Eastenders last year, Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Moon, described winning ‘TV Soap Personality as ‘a great honour’ and admitted when she was asked to make a return to Albert Square, “I said yes straight away.” Commenting on the soap’s recent controversial storyline she said “there are a lot of people who aren’t loving it but it is a great storyline”.
Meanwhile, Hollyoaks’ Jennifer Metcalfe was keen to show off her French language skills which she has been practicing due to her blossoming romance with her French ‘Dancing on Ice’ partner Sylvain Longchambon. She remained diplomatic however when asked who was going to win the ITV reality show, saying “It could be any of them, though it’s not just about the best skater”.
Other awards were won by Coronation Street, Strictly Come Dancing and Top Gear. To see the full list click here.
